A restaurant owner in a West Yorkshire, England community has resorted to putting a sign in her café window that states, "I am a black woman... If you are allergic to black people, don't come in."

She said she’s grown tired of people entering, looking at her, and then walking out.

An area official expressed his shock and said that he didn’t think racism in the town, which is 97-and-a-half percent white, was widespread.

Clearly the owner feels differently, and says she has the goods to back up her belief.

She said that she’d hired a young white woman to tend the counter at the eatery serving English, African and Caribbean cuisine. She observed that while the woman was in front business went up.

After putting up the sign, several of her customers acknowledged that they, too, had noticed the problem.

Not surprisingly, she is highly frustrated. She’s had the café for two years and is fearful she may soon have to pack it up.
