Scientists from Zurich, Switzerland reported that their experiment in teleportation was a huge success.

Relax, they weren’t trying to move a person from ship to shore or even something as useful as a cup of piping hot coffee onto a coworkers desk.

What they teleported was information from one point to another on the same electronic chip.

So, moving a bunch of information around quickly may not sound like much – we all do it every day. The thing is these scientists didn’t do it the same old way.

Computers typically send data through airwaves and wires.

In their experiments, the scientists employed the rules of quantum mechanics.

On an electronic chip similar to a computer chip, they placed three micron electronic circuits.

After being frozen to near absolute zero and then charged, the circuit’s electrons – called qubits or quantum bits of information – interacted with one another in a quantum state.

They joined up and separated but even after separation, the link remained.
The information had actually been teleported rather than just simply being sent.

Others have achieved similar feats, but this team is the first to be able to do it multiple times with consistent results.
