A man who shot his wife in Massachusetts and brought her to a hospital Tuesday night, then shot fatally himself after a standoff with police, local media say.

Police said the man locked himself in his car after getting help for his wife, and put a gun to his head while hostage negotiators tried to diffuse the situation.

The woman is being treated for her wounds.
