Berlusconi begins community service

The world's media camped out at this centre for Alzheimer's patients in a small Italian town on the edge of Milan.

They're waiting for a glimpse of Italy's former Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi on the first day of his community service -- part of a punishment doled out for tax fraud.

The four time prime minister initially received a four year jail sentence but that was commuted to one year's community service.

Berlusconi, who's 77 himself, will spend at least four hours here a week. But not everyone's pleased to see him.

(SOUNDBITE) (Italian) UNNAMED VOLUNTEER WHO WORKS AT THE OLD PEOPLE'S HOME, SAYING:

''I am a volunteer at this institution. I feel that all this hype about the arrival of Berlusconi is far too exaggerated. He is not coming here because he wants to help the people affected by Alzheimer's disease, he is here because he has been forced to come.''
