After years of heeding the warning that consuming too much saturated fat is bad, some experts are changing their stance on the matter.

Among them is author Nina Teicholz, who says that the way people are looking at healthy eating is all wrong.

She asserts that the facts backing up the claim aren’t as reliable as the public tends to think.

Teicholz said that the accepted information, “has been the centerpiece of our dietary wisdom for over 50 years … and it really goes back to some very weak science that was done in the 1950s and onward. But it really– when you go back and look into the science, it really has been shown not to be true.”

She believes the real problem contributing to obesity and heart disease is the overconsumption of carbohydrates and sugar.

A number of doctors agree, and many have started to switch patients’ diets to the low carb, high fat variety.

One noted that for some, eating a carb-heavy meal causes too high a spike in blood sugar, causing fat tissue to latch onto the energy.
