Back in the woods as far as they go
Lived an old hermit among blankets of trees and snow,
He lived by himself in a little ol’ shack
With some tattered up blankets and an old tatter sack.
His life was as simple as simple can be
He ate what he had and peed behind trees,
He was never alone or bored as you think
His animal friends would come over for drinks.
The people who came to his woodland domain
Would usually stop especially when it rained,
He loved his life every thought every thing
He would think to himself, then burst out and sing.
This little old hermit was nice as can be
He lived long in his life and way blessed by thee,
The angels would watch him from heaven above
His simple life and the things that he loved.
When the time came that the old hermit died
The heavens they shook and the angels they cried,
But you who are gracious granted a gift to the world that day
With a little old hermit and his humble gracious ways.
