CHICAGO PROTESTERS DEMAND JUSTICE FOR ROSHAD MCINTOSH
As seen in these amateur videos currently circulating online, hundreds of people protested on Monday September 1 in the streets of Chicago in the United States. The march was organised to urge the local justice system to investigate the death of Roshad McIntosh, the black teen shot on August 24 by a police officer, whose identity has not been revealed. Demonstrators are calling for light to be shed on this affair and are using social networks in their endeavours.
Many are using the hashtag #JusticeforRoshad on Twitter to share their feelings and to express anger at what they consider to be yet another police blunder. Some net users are even drawing an analogy between this case and that of Michael Brown-killed at the start of August in Ferguson, Missouri- critical of the country’s police violence. These outraged web users are also demanding the name of the agent accused of the shooting, which caused McIntosh to lose his life.
But while many lash out at the Chicago police force online, others are urging people to reflect first and foremost on the pain suffered by Roshad McIntosh’s loved ones. This is the case of the authors of these messages published online, inviting all those touched by the case to show solidarity with the family of the dead teen by donating to a fund set up on the Go fund me site. The aim is to help McIntosh’s mother finance her son’s funeral, due to take place next Saturday.
