"LOUIS VUITTON" by Marc Jacobs Autumn Winter 2003 2004 Paris the final of Pret a Porter Woman by FashionChannel
Marc Jacobs took the Courreges-inspired Space Age look, a trend for next winter for which he can be held principally responsible, and produced boxy, layered skirt suits with obvious seams in pale lilac and cream. The season's Sixties obsession was catered for too, with cashmere minis coming A-line under gorgeous jackets with short sleeves and big buttons. There were primly stiff pinafore dresses with jeweled embroidery around the neck which carried on down armour-like placards that swung off the back and a grown-up-girly appeal continued in square toed high heels worn with knee-length coloured socks. There were poodle-cut fur coats that were shorn short down the centre to show off more big buttons and the LV monogram appeared just once on a zip-fronted vinyl rain jacket in brown and gold that came over a tweed wraparound skirt. Trend setting by default, Jacobs also manages to provide his fans with stunning wardrobe staples each season with smart blouses, tailored trousers and plenty of leather and ribbed wool separates. And as ever, he can take a trend and demonstrate exactly how to do it with a single look. This time he showed how to do red just right, with a gorgeous scarlet pleated mini teamed with a matching belted poloneck and accessories to match. Beautifully made, simple but with the details just so, Jacobs keeps Louis Vuitton high on the fashion agenda.
