Authorities say the Minnesota Vikings' star running back, Adrian Peterson, has been charged with injuring a child.
A statement by Peterson's attorney said the charge resulted from his using rod or a stick to spank his son.
(SOUNDBITE) (English) FIRST ASSISTANT DISTRICT ATTORNEY IN MONTGOMERY COUNTY, TEXAS, PHIL GRANT, SAYING:
"On September 11, 2014, Montgomery County grand jury indicted Adrian Peterson for the charge of injury to a child. The mental state that is reflected in the indictment is that he did so with criminal negligence or recklessly. A (inaudible)felony in the state of Texas -- punishable up to 2 years in the state jail and up to a $10,000 fine."
Peterson had testified for "several hours" and was fully cooperating with authorities.
