Tom Rooney - Old Yeller

We played until the foaming mouth,
When bacteria had grown.
Behind the fence, my yeller hound,
A bone I haven't thrown...
I think of days of yeller and I,
While my heart fell with the tears.
Wagging tail and sticks that fly,
Inspiration through the years.
Now, I see his crazed eyes stare,
His jagged teeth exposed,
Ma' held the gun, it's just not fair!
A demon was imposed?
One shot and howls have started.
And I heard ol' yeller cry.
Another shot and he departed.
I watched my best friend die.
We played until the foaming mouth,
When bacteria had grown.
There laying dead, my yeller hound,
A bone I haven't thrown...
