The giant smiled.
His 5 o'clock shadow
looming large
like a big field
of stubble.
Each of his pearly whites
the size of a very tall man.
He looked at me
but...beyond me.
I held my breath
... as did all the rest.
All of our attention
was upon him
& what
he would do next.
The female giant
smiled deliciously back
her luscious lips
parted slightly
as if she were
out of breath.
A tsunami wave
of hair fell tantalisingly
over one eye.
Her smile
could have swallowed us all.
They kissed
like worlds
...colliding.
The little woman
next to me
stifled a sob.
A small woman
on the other side of me
sighed &...sighed
whispered under her breath:
'Oh God...oh God! '
Then the music swelled &
the movie ended with a FIN.
The giants
those icons of celluloid & light
disappeared
up the stairway of light & dust
vanished into
the projector room
like ghosts
returning to the tomb.
We ventured out
into the bitter cold night
each of lost
in our own little make believe
each of us our own Bogey
each of us our own Bacall.
The giants now
trapped
forever in our heads
that last kiss
held prisoner
in our longings &
desires.
