Up until recent times, riding a motorcycle required one important thing – balance. With technology, however, balance isn’t a necessary aspect anymore when it comes to riding on two wheels.
The C-1, developed by Lit Motors is a self-balancing electric-motorcycle. The company has been working to perfect the vehicle for the past four years.
A quick look at the front of it and you would probably think it was just a wide bike, but the view from the side shows that it has an enclosed cockpit of sorts.
The operator must open a door to get in and out. Instead of straddling the bike and grabbing onto a set of handlebars, he or she sits in a regular seat behind a steering wheel.
Lit Motors aims to combine aspects of both a car and motorcycle into one. It steers via the wheel, but leans into corners just like a normal bike.
Gyroscopes and electric motors help the C-1 balance, eliminating the possibility for errors by an inexperienced operator.
The gyroscopes are capable of 6,000 pound-feet of torque which keep it upright. The C-1 reportedly can’t be knocked over, even if it’s being pulled by a much larger vehicle.
It has a 200-mile range and the ability to go from 0 to 60 in 6 seconds. With a width of around 40 inches, riders of the 800-pound C-1 can easily maneuver in and out of traffic.
If need be, the interior can be configured to accommodate a passenger.
While not yet in production, interested buyers are able to reserve their vehicle with a deposit.
