The viral story surrounding a sheep that was discovered wearing an ugly Christmas sweater has a happy ending. The festive sheep named Gage is now back home with his owner.

The creature’s ordeal started last weekend when he was found wandering the streets of Omaha and staffers from the Nebraska humane society took him in. The shelter shared his story on Facebook along with the photo of him wearing the holiday sweater in an effort to find his owner.

It wasn’t long before Margaret Vazquez got wind of his whereabouts and came forward to claim her animal. A friend of her daughter had seen the sheep’s picture online and told Vazquez he was at the shelter.

Gage was located about a block away from his home and his owner believes he managed to escape through a fence. Vazquez commented “I was so happy that we got him. I was worried that someone would eat him or something bad would happen.”

By the time they were reunited, Gage had become a celebrity, as a number of news outlets featured his story and Twitter users began using the hashtag ChristmasSheep to share his photo.
