Approximately 8 million Cubans are expected to cast their ballot this Sunday in municipal elections held every two and a half years. Voters will elect delegates to municipal assemblies across the country. Voting at almost 25,000 pollling stations began at 6 am local time and will end at 6 pm. The municipal assemblies are a kind of neighborhood council that oversees local issues such as water and wastewater services, street repair and insect fumigation.
