Shimla, Apr 09 (ANI): Himachal Pradesh's capital Shimla is set to get relief from extensive monkey menace in the region as the government gears up for a mass extermination drive. The popular tourist destination has been struggling with monkey menace since a long time. The state had repeatedly asked the federal government for action on the matter. According to State Forest Minister Thakur Singh Bharmauri, the Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change in a notification declared monkeys in Shimla city to be 'vermin' for a period of six months, thus allowing the culling of the animals in specific areas. The minister added the state had reached out to the Centre for such permissions in other regions too. Locals are relieved with the decision but think there could be better ways to curb monkey menace.
