The fourth and final round of the BMW M1 Procar Challenge takes us to the Mount Panorama circuit, Bathurst.
I have to say that this was one of the toughest events I have come across in Project Cars and this race in particular was probably the most difficult. During the course of the four events I did a lot of testing and setup and just when I thought I was beginning to get the BMW approximately where I wanted it to be, I would be brought back to earth with a bang!
Here at Bathurst I struggled throughout practice and qualifying, ending up only 13th on the grid and posting times 5 or six seconds off the front runners - the best lap I managed was in the 2m 16s bracket but I could not reproduce such times consistently or even more than once.
As you will see, I got a good start, was lucky in the first corner chaos and I went on to have what I considered a very good result considering my lowly starting position. However, I have to say that the biggest problem throughout this race meeting was the AI who were extraordinarily aggressive and clumsy.
I tend to always find myself struggling at the same points on this track, irrespective of the car I'm driving so I know it is me who needs to improve and not the car - you will notice how I run reasonably well from the start and up onto the mountain but my struggles begin on the descent and again at the end of the straight at the left/right combination. The problem with that in this particular race, was the AI's willingness to just punt me off the circuit if I had the temerity to go a little too slowly for them, almost as if I just wasn't there at all.
