A passenger jet headed for Las Vegas was forced to carry out an emergency landing at Manchester Airport after a suspected technical fault was discovered.

Thomas Cook Airlines flight MT2718 took off from Manchester but the pilot decided to return as the aircraft neared the Irish Sea.

Fire engines were scrambled to the runway but the aircraft landed safely.

All 283 passengers on board the Airbus A330-200 were taken to the terminal.
