A five-judge Supreme Court Bench, headed by Chief Justice of India J S Khehar, on tuesday pronounced its judgement on the legality of the Islamic personal law practice of triple talaq and whether it is violative of the fundamental and human rights of gender equality and dignity of Muslim women.

മുത്തലാഖിന് രാജ്യത്ത് നിരോധനം. സുപ്രീം കോടതിയുടെ ഭരണഘടനാ ബെഞ്ചില്‍ അഞ്ച് ജസ്റ്റിസുമാരില്‍ മൂന്ന് പേര്‍ മുത്തലാഖിന് വിരുദ്ധമായ നിലപാട് എടുത്തപ്പോള്‍ ചീഫ് ജസ്റ്റിസ് അടക്കം രണ്ടുപേര്‍ മുത്തലാഖ് മുസ്ലിം വ്യക്തിനിയമത്തിന്റെ ഭാഗമാണെന്ന് അഭിപ്രായം രേഖപ്പെടുത്തി. എങ്കിലും ഭൂരിപക്ഷ വിധി പ്രകാരം മുത്തലാഖ് നിയമവിരുദ്ധമാണെന്ന അഭിപ്രായത്തില്‍ സുപ്രീം കോടതി എത്തിച്ചേരുകയായിരുന്നു. അതേസമയം മുത്തലാഖ് വിഷയത്തില്‍ പുതിയ നിയമം വേണമെന്ന് കേന്ദ്രസര്‍ക്കാരിനോട് സുപ്രീം കോടതി നിര്‍ദേശിച്ചു.
