Neutrinos have almost no mass and no charge, making them extremely difficult to detect. About 100 trillion of them pass through the human body every second, and a much larger number passes through Earth. They were thought to pass through everything in their path, but scientists have found that some very-high-energy neutrinos are blocked by Earth's dense core.
