On the afternoon of April 2, Ankur Kumar (22) was outside the District Court premises in Meerut, amidst the crowd protesting against the ‘dilution of the SC/ST act’. The crowd of protestors stood outside the back-gate of the court premises ­– some chanted slogans, while some pelted stones aimed inside the court premises. On the other side were lawyers and police men. Several rounds of bullets were fired from inside, one of which, hit Ankur in the stomach. He died a few hours later.
