Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar met with Dutch far-right leader Geert Wilders at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport to discuss assaults on Israeli fans after a football game in Amsterdam.
Saar called Wilders one of Israel’s “greatest friends,” praising his stance that “radical Islam is dangerous not only to the Middle East and Israel, but also to Western society and Europe.”
Wilders, leader of the largest party in the Dutch parliament, assured Saar of their “common interest to combat antisemitism and Jew hate” and emphasized that “radical Islamic values have no place in a free society.”
The attacks targeted Maccabi Tel Aviv fans visiting for a match against Ajax Amsterdam, described by Amsterdam’s mayor as “antisemitic hit-and-run squads.” In response, the Palestinian foreign ministry urged the Dutch government to protect Palestinians and Arabs, accusing Israeli visitors of spreading “racist ideas and crimes” in European cities.
