Tensions inside Yemen have exploded after the Saudi-led coalition launched a wave of airstrikes against UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) forces in the southern Dhale governorate.

Saudi officials say the strikes were “pre-emptive,” claiming STC leader Aidarous al-Zubaidi mobilized fighters, armored vehicles, and heavy weapons after failing to attend peace talks in Riyadh. Shortly after, Yemen’s presidential council removed al-Zubaidi from power and accused him of high treason — a move the STC rejects, insisting he remains in Aden and still commands loyalty.

Reports suggest around 15 strikes hit STC positions, marking one of the most serious escalations between former allies who once fought side-by-side against the Houthis. With the UAE-backed STC weakened and Saudi forces regaining territory, fears are rising that Yemen’s fractured anti-Houthi coalition may fully unravel — deepening instability across the region.
