After five years together, Keira Knightley and Rupert Friend have broken up.

Keira's father, theatre and television actor Will Knightley, confirmed the split telling The Sun:

"Yes, they have broken up. But that's the way things go, unfortunately. The only option is to get on with things."

Mr Knightley went on to say: "They were together for quite a long time and it is always hard breaking up. She's focused on her work."

25-year-old Keira and 29-year-old Rupert met in 2005 on the set of Pride and Prejudice where Keira played Elizabeth Bennett and Rupert was Mr Wickham.

There are reports that the break-up may have in part been down to the pressures of being in the public eye.
