Picking a Ripe Avocado - as part of the expert series by GeoBeats. Hi, I am Scott Pollack, founder of Hot Pot Culinary Events, and one thing people often ask me is how do you find a great ripe avocado? So, I am going to show you few tips, so that you can find the perfect avocado for you. So the first thing to know, is what kind of avocado do you need. Well, if you are looking to make guacamole or put some in a sandwich or in a salad, the kind of avocado you are most likely looking for is this. This is a hass avocado, now this is different then what is called the Florida avocado which, you might see in some super markets. A Florida avocado is much bigger, it is much brighter green and it has got a very different textures so it is really not what you are looking for, for any of those types for sandwiches or salads or guacamoles. So hass avocado is really great. Now to find a perfect, right hass avocado, there are a few tips. What you are looking for in a right avocado is that it is a little bit soft, it has got a little bit of give to it. So if you stick a finger against it and you press it, it should be just a little bit on the soft side. Now, what you do not want is one that is rock hard, because that means that it is ripe it all, and what you also do not want is one that is really soft that you can really push all the way through and it is kind of squishy, because that means it is over ripe. You are looking for something right in between, something that has got a nice, soft give to it. That is how you get a perfect avocado.
