At least seven civilians are killed in a blast inside a mosque in eastern Afghanistan.

The overnight attack came shortly after a joint NATO Afghan operation in the area killed four Taliban fighters.

A taliban spokesman said Americans used air strikes to attack the mosque, but coalition forces saius there was no use of airpower in the area.

"All those people killed were either students or teachers. They were all civilians; there were no armed men here."

NATO confirmed that a joint special forces team conducted a night raid in the area, and was aware of reports of an explosion once the team had left. NATO said no civilians were killed in the joint operation.
