Egyptian President Mohammad Mursi arrived in Pakistan on Monday (March 18) for a one-day state visit at the invitation of the President Asif Ali Zardari.
Mursi is the first civilian and democratically-elected President of Egypt to visit Pakistan. The last bilateral visit was by late Gamal Abdel Nasser in the 1960s.
He was received at the Noor Khan Airbase by officials of the Foreign Office and Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee Mushahid Hussain Syed.
Ambassadors of many Arab countries were also present at the airbase to receive the Egyptian President.
The Egyptian leader was scheduled to come to Pakistan for the D-8 summit in November last year but could not do so because of his involvement in the lengthy peace talks after Israeli attacks in the Gaza Strip and other domestic engagements.
