Just one soda a day increases diabetes risk.

Drinking one can of soda a day can increase a person’s risk of developing type 2 diabetes by as much as 22 percent.

In a study of sugary beverage drinking Europeans, researchers sifted through 15 years of health data of over 27 thousand people.

They found that over the years more than 40 percent of them developed type 2 diabetes. Those who drank 12 ounces of sweetened beverage or more a day were at an 18 percent higher risk.

Diet beverage drinkers showed no increased threat as long as they were at a healthy weight and exercised.

Sugar has been linked to a variety of health issues and sweetened drinks are the biggest contributor of empty calories and processed sugar in both the US and Europe.

Carbonation, on the other hand, has not proven to have any adverse effects on its drinkers.
